| TITLE | Installing SIMetrix SPICE FET Models |
| APPLIES TO | SIMetrix/SIMPLIS v5.6, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS v6.00, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS v6.10 |
| KEYWORDS | spice, fet, mosfet, install |
| DESCRIPTION | Instructions showing how to install FET models for use in SIMetrix or SIMPLIS. |
Drag and drop the file containing the ASCII model of the device into the SIMetrix/SIMPLIS Command Shell Window. When prompted, click OK to install the model into the library.
In a new SIMetrix SPICE schematic, choose Place > From Model Library.... In the resulting dialog, choose the appropriate recently added device.
After placing an instance of the symbol on the schematic, SIMetrix will perform a number of tests to attempt to assure the usability of the FET model. If those tests are successful, the model and symbol are linked in the SIMetrix library, and the device will be ready to placed on a schematic.
Occasionally, SIMetrix will be unable to automatically recognize the type of a device from the contents of the model file. In those situations, the category displayed in the dialog will be reported as unknown. To resolve this, select the device from the list and choose Place. SIMetrix will then run a number of internal simulation-based tests on the model to determine the type of device.
Once the SIMetrix has identified the device type, the symbol will be automatically assigned, and can be placed on the schematic as usual.
In a SIMPLIS schematic, choose Place > From Model Library.... In the resulting dialog, choose the appropriate FET device..
SIMetrix/SIMPLIS will then run an automated conversion process that uses a short SPICE simulation to extract the SIMPLIS model parameters for the device. A message will be displayed in the SIMetrix/SIMPLIS Command Shell window that indicates the status of that operation.
Please note that the FET can also be selected through the normal selection process, using the appropriate PMOS or NMOS option from the Place > Semiconductors menu.
Right Click on the FET symbol and choose "Edit Additional Parameters..."
Optimize the Parameter Extraction process:
Modeling Level 0 N-channel MOSFET
Modeling Level 2 N-channel MOSFET
